Last week we talked about the pros and cons of using AI technology to write job ads, as well as the importance of editing the resulting ad before posting live to the job boards. However, let’s go back to the beginning for a moment.
It is incredibly important to be as detailed as possible when prompting the AI to write an ad for you to ensure you get it as close as possible to the final product from the jump. Below, I will provide some good and bad examples for prompts to get you on the right track.
Prompt 1:
“I need to hire additional staff in my insurance office. Can you please write me a job ad?”
Resulting Job Description:
“We are a reputable and growing insurance company seeking to expand our team at our [Location] office. We are looking for dedicated and skilled individuals to join us as Insurance Office Staff. If you are passionate about the insurance industry, enjoy providing exceptional customer service, and have excellent organizational and communication skills, we want to hear from you! We offer a competitive salary, benefits package, and opportunities for growth within our organization. Join our dynamic team and contribute to our commitment to providing excellent insurance services to our valued clients.
To apply, please submit your resume and a cover letter outlining your relevant experience and why you are interested in joining our team. We will review applications on an ongoing basis and contact candidates for interviews.”
Resulting Note:
“Note: This job ad is a sample and should be customized to reflect the specific needs and requirements of your insurance office.”
As you can see, this is a very generic job ad that does not contain any specific information about your agency or the unique opportunity you are offering. The technology itself even notes the importance of reviewing and customizing your ad. This prompt also provided a list of responsibilities and requirements that were not very specific and covered everything from policy changes to answering inbound phone lines. There is a lot of work to be done still to customize this ad to give candidates an accurate idea of what the role entails.
Let’s look at an example of a prompt that will allow the AI technology to do some more of the heavy lifting for you:
Prompt 2:
“My insurance agency, The Insurance Professionals, in Lake Orion, Michigan is hiring for entry-level insurance sales representatives. We offer a competitive salary with a base salary starting at $30,000 per year and they are expected to earn at least $15,000 in commission during their first year. We have been in business for 25 years and know everything there is to know about being successful in the insurance industry. We offer ongoing training and mentorship so that new employees can build successful careers. We will even pay for them to get their license and we offer a great benefits package. Each day they will be prospecting for new business, developing insurance quotes, making sales presentations, closing sales to meet their goals, and looking for upsell opportunities. They are expected to have at least one year of sales experience and be self-driven with the ability to build rapport Can you please write me a job description in 5 sentences to help me find this star employee?”
Resulting Job Description:
“We are seeking a motivated and self-driven individual to join our team as an Entry-Level Insurance Sales Representative. As an established insurance agency with 25 years of experience, we offer a competitive salary, starting at $30,000 per year, along with a commission structure that enables earning potential of at least $15,000 in the first year. We provide comprehensive training and mentorship to help you build a successful career in the insurance industry, including covering the costs of acquiring your insurance license.”
Resulting Responsibilities:
- Conduct daily prospecting activities to generate new business opportunities.
- Develop insurance quotes, present sales proposals, and effectively close sales to meet and exceed sales goals.
- Identify upselling opportunities and provide clients with suitable coverage options.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, demonstrating excellent communication and rapport-building skills.
- Stay updated on industry trends, product knowledge, and sales techniques to enhance sales performance.
Resulting Requirements:
- Minimum of one year of sales experience, preferably in a customer-facing role.
- Self-driven with a strong desire to succeed and exceed sales targets.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with clients.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Willingness to obtain an insurance license (we will cover the licensing expenses).
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and competitive sales environment.
“We offer a comprehensive benefits package, ongoing training, and a supportive work environment that fosters professional growth. If you are a motivated individual seeking a rewarding career in insurance sales, please submit your resume and a cover letter highlighting your sales experience and why you believe you would be a great fit for our team.”
Resulting Note:
“Note: Feel free to customize the job description to align with your specific requirements and provide any additional information about your company culture or values.”
As you can see, this ad is much more specific to the prompt that I provided and may need only a few tweaks to ensure it meets job board guidelines. For example, the wording of this requirement, “Willingness to obtain an insurance license (we will cover the licensing expenses),” is not very clear, so we’ll want to update that to say “Property & Casualty License is Required. We will pay for licensing.” I would also want to include the agency name and location in the Job Description, just so it is easy for candidates to see who they would be working for. Besides that, all that is left in this example is a benefits list, saving me time by being more specific with my prompt.
Remember, the more detail you can provide, the better. This way, you can provide that stream of consciousness in a few minutes and the AI technology can take that content and format it for you in a matter of seconds. Then, all it takes is a few minutes of review and update and you’re ready to go with an attractive job ad!
